Getting started with Lumi
From install to your first published batch in about ten minutes. Start small: five products you know well are enough to judge whether the drafts fit your store.
The short version
Install Lumi from the Shopify App Store, open the Dashboard to see what's missing, start a small batch from Bulk create, review the drafts, and publish the ones you approve. Nothing from a batch you start reaches your store until you publish it.
Your first batch
Each step names the screen you'll use in the Lumi admin.
1. Install and open Lumi
Install from the Shopify App Store and approve the permissions. Lumi opens inside Shopify admin on the Dashboard. You start on the Free plan, with no charge.
2. See what's missing
The Dashboard counts products missing descriptions, image alt text, SEO titles, and meta descriptions. Free checks up to 500 Online Store products, best sellers first; paid plans and One-Time Cleanup check the full catalog.
3. Pick a small batch
Open Bulk create, filter by vendor, collection, or product type, and sort by what's missing. Choose the fields to draft. Free batches hold up to 10 products. Lumi shows the credit estimate before you start.
4. Review the drafts
When the batch finishes, open Review drafts. Compare current and proposed copy, edit any word, regenerate, or set a draft aside. Check facts like materials and sizes against your product data.
5. Publish what you approve
Publish one draft or a reviewed group. Lumi writes to Shopify's own fields, which your theme already displays. Then open the product on your storefront to confirm the result.
6. Check the record
Records shows what each run drafted, published, or failed. Published changes lists what went live and lets you restore eligible changes.
Settings worth a look
None are required for a first batch, but they shape every draft after it.
Writing rules
Decide whether descriptions may mention the brand or variant options, and list claims to always include, claims to never make, and banned words.
Brand voice and language
On One-Time Cleanup and Maintain, let Lumi read your storefront to learn your style, and choose one of 17 draft languages.
Automation (Maintain)
Automatic content creation for new products is off until you turn it on. When you do, it starts set to publish automatically, so switch it to create drafts if you want to review first.
Lumi help questions
Do I need to set anything up before my first batch?
No. You can start a batch right after install. Writing rules and brand voice improve later drafts, so set them before larger batches.
Will Lumi change products I don't select?
No. Batches you start only draft the products and fields you choose, and only publish what you approve.
