  • Lumi drafts SEO titles up to 70 characters and prefers 60 or fewer.
  • Lumi drafts meta descriptions at 160 characters or fewer.
  • This checker flags titles under 30 characters and descriptions under 80 as short editing prompts. These are guidelines, not Google requirements or a content-quality score.
  • Google truncates by display width and may rewrite either field, so treat this preview as an editing aid.
  • Nothing you type here is sent anywhere; the check runs in your browser.

Where to edit these fields in Shopify

  1. In Shopify admin, open Products and choose a product.
  2. Scroll to Search engine listing and select the edit icon.
  3. Edit the page title (your SEO title) and meta description. The product title shoppers see doesn't change.
  4. Save, then check the product page source or a search preview.

Collections and pages have the same fields. See collection SEO titles and meta descriptions for category and sale-page patterns, and the six annotated product examples for wording.

SEO title and meta description questions

What is the Shopify meta description character limit?

Shopify's own field accepts up to 320 characters, but Google usually shows around 150 to 160 characters on desktop and fewer on mobile. Lumi drafts meta descriptions at 160 characters or fewer.

How long should a Shopify SEO title be?

Aim for about 60 characters. Shopify allows up to 70 in the page title field. Google truncates by display width, roughly 600 pixels on desktop, so wide letters run out sooner.

Why does Google show different text from my meta description?

Google may rewrite the title link or snippet when it thinks other text on the page matches the search better. A specific, accurate description is more likely to be used.

Does this tool store what I type?

No. The check runs entirely in your browser and nothing is sent to Lumi.
